vallejo ended a crash in martinez. a pickup hit the center divider after hitting spike strips. he lit paper on fire in the vehicle. the suspect was removed taken to the hospital to be checked out and arrested. a scandal is brewing at a high school in alameda involving extra credit for pictures of sex toys. the teacher who gave the assignment is still on the job. only on "5", parents tell andria borba the school is not explaining how this happened. >> reporter: high schoo geometry class. one teacher's idea of extra credit. >> to go into your parents' private drawer to seek out sex toys. condoms, anything of that nature. and to take a selfie with it. >> reporter: mothers kimberly cobene and evangeline garcia heard about the sex toys selfie last month from a counselor at an after-school program their sophomore daughters attend. >> from what i understand, a

student actually did it, and he used that as an example to what it should look like for the other students. >> reporter: high school administrators implied to the moms, it might have been a joke. >> if the kids took it as a joke, why did one kid do it? and showed it as an example in class if it was a joke? >> reporter: they say the accused teacher is still on the job and they aren't getting answers from the district. >> we don't feel comfortable with our children in his presence. all they could say it's a human resources issue and it's being investigated. >> reporter: when i spoke to a district representative he said the same. why is this teacher still in class on campus is this. >> i can't give you details about that. it's an ongoing investigation. >> reporter: the reason given? privacy concerns. you say that you have an obligation to protect the employee. >> yes. >> reporter: what about the students? >> student safety is utmost

priority but we can't reveal understand law details of an ongoing investigation under state law of the ongoing investigation of an employee. >> reporter: why is the teacher still on campus? >> that's part of the investigation. >> reporter: in alameda, andria borba, kpix 5. >> we have been trying to contact the teacher for a couple of days now. so far, no luck. a police officer dragged by a car in daly city and now the search is on for a suspect that began about 9 p.m. with a traffic stop on crocker avenue. it was part of a gang enforcement operation by countrywide task force. investigators say as the officer spoke with the driver the driver took off briefly dragging that officer along. another officer fired shots at that car. >> well, i thought maybe it could have been some fireworks. but then i said no, it can't be no fireworks. and then yeah, i assumed it was a couple of gunshots fired. >> the dragged officer was not seriously injured. police are looking for a white

chrysler 300 last seen on brunswick street. 6:04. let's check the roads with gianna. >> chp is working to clear an accident on the bay bridge westbound at treasure island. three cars involved. you can see traffic is backed up. hopefully they will get that out of the way in the next few minutes and get back to normal. it's busy anyway. metering lights are on at the bay bridge and you can see we're backed up well into the maze. approaches to the bay bridge seeing some delays. eastshore freeway though still moving nicely. northbound 101 at college avenue in santa rosa that accident now in the clearing stages out of lanes so things look better on 101. south 101 towards the golden gate bridge, no delays into san francisco. 880 seeing a few brake lights this morning. couple of things we have a new accident to report south 880 right at "a" street causing a backup as you work your way towards the san mateo bridge. and later on though just a heads up, nba finals game one warriors and cavs. that tips off at 6:00. you will see delays along 880. you might try bart instead.

that's a look at your morning drive. here's brian with the forecast. thank you, gianna. we are starting out with readings in the mid-50s and partly cloudy skies. clear skies inland, some clouds along the shoreline and prospects for a nice day. kpix 5 weather watcher: >> this afternoon we'll be in the mid-70s inland and just upper 60s around the bay specifically today we are going to be looking for the city to be at 60 degrees. 65 at oakland. 75 at livermore. there is one thing. there's the potential maybe for some thunderstorms later this afternoon in the north bay. we'll tell you about that have the extended forecast as well as the prospects for a warm weekend coming up in a few minutes. first let's get the latest. here's michelle. brian, thank you. new this morning, the drought is the biggest concern among californians according to a new poll. nearly half of californians believe the 25% mandatory water cut by governor brown is the right amount. across the state, 39% of people

polled consider water and the drought to be the most critical issue facing the state. many neighbors think their neighbors aren't doing enough to conserve. state senate is trying to curb climate change. kiet do explains the huge changes that could be on their way here in california. he joins us live in san jose. kiet, good morning. >> good morning. if these bills become law you can expect to go to the gas pump a lot less often. that's because the state senate has passed a sweeping set of bills that if they become law would become the most stringent environmental laws in the world. republicans and oil companies criticize the bills as lofty goals with no funding or plan to make it happen and it would kill jobs. governor brown signed an order to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40%. the goals are centered on petroleum. cars and trucks would have to double their fuel-efficiency by 2030. then slash greenhouse gas

emissions to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. california utilities would have to have half of their electricity by renewable sources by 2030. >> in north america california is now setting the pace. this is going to require a significant reduction in carbon emissions. it's going to require a creative response on the part of industry, agriculture, energy, government, local and state. all of that. >> reporter: now, that oil spill in santa barbara from two weeks ago that dumped tens of thousands of gallons of crude oil into the ocean was on the minds of lawmakers. the senate also passed a bill to ban new offshore drilling in parts of the santa barbara channel. we should also mention that these votes passed with large margins along party lines. the next step for the bill is the state assembly. live in san jose kiet do, kpix 5. one of fifa's former vice presidents indicted in a

corruption scandal is about to reveal all. jack warner of trinidad says he has documents copies of checks that link fifa officials to his country's elections in 2010. he made a televised address last night. in another development, federal prosecutors released court documents in which american chuck blazer admits he and other fifa officials took bribes. it is a big day for your san francisco giants. >> they will spend part of today's off day at the white house. the team will meet with president obama to celebrate last year's world series championship. it's the third such visit for the giants in the past five years. the giants beat the kansas city royals 4-3 games in the 2014 october classic. 6:09. san francisco police are facing tough questions after another pedestrian is injured during a high-speed chase. >> and one bay area school has a secret weapon in the battle to make sure kids are eating healthy. >> a little sun on the way for

situations, there will be critics. >> i'm sure if someone had a loved one shot, murdered, the police didn't try to catch the person there would be commentary on that, too. >> monday another innocent person was injured during a police chase in san francisco and in april, a bystander was killed. children's hospital oakland now has the go-ahead to make some major renovations. city council gave its final approval on tuesday. a modernization project will strengthen the hospital against earthquakes and improve facilities. master plan includes more than 200 patient beds, new surgical rooms and an expansion of their outpatient center. construction will start in late summer. the days of frozen pizza and mystery meat are over at one east by high school. clayton valley high school got a kitchen makeover and the kids are loving it and we think that's pretty cool. >> reporter: there's something cooking at clayton valley

[ laughter ] let's start with the good news. here's 280 at mariposa, beautiful shot working way into san francisco. no problem there. northbound out of daly city to 280 no problems. bay bridge a backup here. metering lights have been turned on for 45 minutes now. backed up well into the maze at this point. we had an early-morning accident westbound right at treasure island. the good news though they have it cleared out of the road. in fact, here's a live look at conditions there. you can see traffic looks like extra volume but overall it's moving okay. it's better since that accident is now cleared. checking the roads on 880 we have this accident at "a" street still in the clearing stages. it's over to the right shoulder but you can see some yellow there on our sensors so traffic

is backed up southbound 880 as a result. once you hit the san mateo bridge traffic moves a lot better through there. and you can see in our live camera here westbound 92 no brake lights 880 to 101, 14 minutes from hayward to foster city. south bay nice so far, both directions 101. an easy ride overall o 101 into san jose. here's your morning in san jose with mostly sunny skies in the south bay. it's looking a-okay and the numbers are mostly in the 50s right now. 55 at concord. in livermore 57 degrees. san francisco 52. san jose 54. santa rosa 51. right now on the satellite and radar showing you what's happening we get a few clouds today, cooler than yesterday as this low pressure spins abeam cape mendocino. it will bring a chance of thunderstorms to the north bay later in the day. we get some clearing but also this afternoon, you can see

these thunderstorms that are just north of santa rosa developing later today. so we could get thunderstorms. all this moisture coming around the topside of that low and what was formerly hurricane andres that was well south of cabo san lucas, so subtropical moisture working its way into the bay area in the sierra it's going to produce thunderstorms out by lake tahoe and yosemite. 90s, boy, that's the first time this season we have seen numbers that warm. 61 degrees at monterey and 89 at ukiah. and for the bay area today, 60 in san francisco. 59 at pacifica. 71 in san jose. and 75 at livermore. 76 for fairfield. and the extended forecast, we'll warm up into the weekend. more sunshine for friday and for saturday, by the time we hit next week, we'll be in the near 90-degree range and warming it up around the bay, as well. in the meantime, don't forget that chance of thunderstorms later in the day. that's what's coming up in weather. as for what's coming up in the

good morning. two rookie head coaches haven't opposed each other in the finals since the true man administration. and a rather bizarre twist of fate, steve kerr and dave blatt were supposed to be on the same

team this year. blatt coached in the israeli league last year. and he met with kerr at l.a.x. to talk about joining his staff. now, blatt apparently accepted the job. but he had to back out when the cavs came calling. >> part of my selling job to david was hey, we're going to be pretty good. i didn't know if we would be in the finals. we are going to be pretty good. you join our staff. two weeks later he is head coach the cavs and couple of weeks after that he has lebron and, um, everything obviously changed from there. and here we are. a's trying to win the first two games of the series in detroit. gray struck out 7 in 8 innings lowering her earned run average to an american league best 1.65. look out for sonny gray going to the all-star game. the a's step on the scoreboard on the second. burns knocked to the sidewall with the bases loaded all three runs scoring. oakland 3-0. they win 6-1. sonny gray is 7-2 on the campaign. could this be the start of

basketball fan this is an exciting day if the name of local pride. tip-off at 6 p.m. the finals will be broadcast to 215 countries 47 languages press from around the world converging here. and the warriors had their final practice yesterday. that was at their practice facility in downtown oakland gearing up for this series of their careers. >> it's exciting. this town who, you know, is completely rallied behind us and, you know, they have always been great fans, um, you know, even through the dark times always been great fans and now that we're here, everyone is excited. everybody, everywhere you go, so it's been pretty amazing just to see. >> reporter: getting tickets to the finals is a feat. season ticketholders do have the option of selling their tickets for the finals for tens of thousands of dollars each. >> everybody has been asking, like, oh, how much could you sell them for? it's, like, waited too long for

this. there's no way we're going to sell it. >> reporter: now, there's a bit of a legal battle brewing about that whole issue. the warriors only want their season ticketholders to sell through one vendor ticketmaster and some of those season ticketholders say they should be able to sell wherever they want. of course, that's a different kind of court. the court that we are talking about this morning is a much more fun sort of court here at oracle arena. these courtside seats, by the way, cost tens of thousands of dollars. about $40,000 for these. the cheapest tickets we can find right now $700. live at oracle arena anne makevoc, kpix 5. new this morning, a wild police chase on bay area freeways. it started at 11:30 last night in vallejo. it ended with a crash in martinez. this pickup truck hit the center divide on 680 after running over spike strips. the chp says the driver lit some papers on fire inside the

car. a k-9 unit helped officers remove the suspect from the truck. he was taken to the hospital to be checked out and arrested. the search is on for a suspect after a police officer was dragged by a car in daly city last night at a traffic stop on crocker avenue part of a countywide gang enforcement operation. investigators say as the officer spoke with the driver, the drive took off briefly dragging the officer. another officer fired shots at the car, a white chrysler 300. it's unclear whether anyone in the car was hit. the dragged officer was not seriously injured. water bills are going up for more than 200,000 people in contra costa county. it's in response to the state's push tow slash water use. the district approved the emergency drought rates and fines last night. people who water more than twice a week will get one warning and then they will face fines. customers can get a break on their monthly bill if they cut their use by 25%. meanwhile, burlingame says the state has unfairly labeled the

city a water waster. burlingame's water use was up 38% in april but the city manager said it's actually down 6%. state water officials say they will fix that report. all right. so let's get another check on our weather. looking like a nice weekend ahead of us. >> yeah. finally we are going to be warming up into 80 inland. that's after some interesting weather this afternoon in the north bay. we can get a thunderstorm or two possibly up around santa rosa and north. we shall see. in the meantime we are starting out with partly cloudy skies around the bay area. temperatures right now from the kpix 5 weather watchers in los altos right now 54 degrees. san francisco 52. brentwood 56. sebastopol 52. starting with some sun and clouds around the bay area. you can see the low clouds filling in. later in the day these thunderstorms form north of santa rosa if everything pans out as expected. subtropical moisture from an old hurricane off cabo san

lucas finally makes its way into lake and sonoma counties later this afternoon. most of us will see sunshine and very pleasant temperatures. 73 degrees at concord. 71 in san jose. here in the city, 60 degrees. we'll have a look into the weekend forecast. first let's get the latest on the road ahead. here's gianna. >> thank you very much. the bay bridge continues to be a busy spot. metering lights are on. earlier wreck at treasure island is cleared. extra minutes backed up into the maze at this point. check the rest of the bay area, 880 northbound still looking decent through oakland southbound not a bad ride through oakland. you start seeing the brakes as you work your way toward today. a new accident north 101 at 880. it is blocking lanes. also getting word traffic is actually not too bad if you are connecting from south 880 to 101. so that's the good news there. but accident mostly affecting the actual main lines of 101 right at 880. that's a live look at 880 right at 101. and a new wreck north 17 at fair creek is just in from chp.

more details on that coming up. police in san jose want to know who robbed copper wire from their sports field. they say someone stole about 50 pounds of wire from a light stand at the police at letic league baseball field. games are still going on as long as it is light out. but night games are on hold. >> it is a complex fix. it will take a couple of days couple electricians they have to hired -- rent out a big cherry picker to come out. it won't be easy to repair. >> the repair and replacement work could cost $25,000. new plan is in the works to track down hit-and-run drivers called a yellow alert. it would work just like an amber alert system. it would broadcast information about drivers suspected in hit- and-run crashes. a bill to set up the system is in the state senate. it passed last year but the governor vetoed it. new details emerging about the cache of weapons found in the car of a white house

intruder omar gonzalez. investigators found hundreds of rounds of ammo, a machete, several tomahawks and knives. the car was found about a mile from the white house after gonzalez was arrested last september. gonzalez who has a history of mental illness pleaded guilty to charges in march. next week sentencing has been postponed. the pentagon says the number of labs that may have received live anthrax has more than doubled. the department of defense says more than 50 such shipments to 17 states and three countries were made in recent years. late last month the pentagon admitted to mistakenly sending live samples to several labs. stanford received one. so far no lab workers have gotten sick. >> these are possibly hundreds of different lots. so that's why i do believe the numbers may go up. >> the army's top general says the process of killing the anthrax failed. dog owners in san jose are being warned to watch what their pets pick up.

animal care and control investigating a possible poisoning attempt on the popular three creeks trail in willow glen. a black lab picked up some sort of white powder on its nose yesterday. the owner said it came from something that looked like cat food. that dog by the way is okay. the powder has been sent to a laboratory for testing. an east bay teacher is accused of offering extra credit for selfies with sex toys. the mothers of two students heard about it from a counselor at an after-school program. they say a geometry teacher at encinal high school asked students to go into parents' drawers seek out sex toys and condoms and take a picture. >> from what i understand a student did it and he used that as an example to what it should look like for the other students. >> if the kids took it as a joke why did one kid take it serious and actually did the extra credit work and showed it as an example in class if it was taken as a joke? >> the teacher is still on the job. an alameda unified school

paramedics treated dozens for stings after students and their families attended the graduation. apparently they walked right next to a hive. >> i was running of where with bees in my hair trying to get it off and everybody ran inside. a lot of people got hurt. >> like a prick and i saw the little stinger and pulled it out. >> no one had an allergic reaction. a bee keeper thinks the drought may have made the hive morage today. the graduation ceremony did go on as planned. a little drama. >> those poor people attending. >> i got stung 12 times to see your graduation! of lofty goals with no funding or plan to make it happen and it would kill jobs. this follows the executive order from governor brown to cut greenhouse gas by 40%. so the toughest goals are centered on petroleum. cars and trucks would have to double their fuel efficiency by 2030. and then slash greenhouse gas emissions to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050. california utilities would also have to generate at least half of their electricity from solar, wind and other renewable sources by 2030. now, the oil spill in santa barbara from two weeks ago that dumped tens of thousands of gallons of crude into the ocean was also on the minds of lawmakers. the senate also passed a bill to ban new offshore drilling in parts of the santa barbara channel which is the only place in california that could be used for new drilling. we should also mention that the votes passed with large margins right along party lines. the set of bills heads off to the state assembly now. live in san jose kiet do, kpix 5. four miles of shoreline are now closed in long beach the
